Jonathan Mark is the pen name for Mark Stephenson who was born in Darlington, County Durham. At the age of 19 he came to London to seek his fortune starting his career at the Bank of England. After nearly forty years in the City of London financial district, he retired early from Bank of America to pursue his long held ambition to write. He lives in Essex with his wife Lin. He also spends long periods in Cornwall where the restless seas and wild coast line provide inspiration for many stories, just as they did for Daphne du Maurier.
To kick start his writing career he completed an MA in Crime and Thriller writing at City University London. At the time, this course was the only creative writing MA in the country which focused on commercial crime fiction. The Last Messenger was the novel submitted to complete the MA.
